ODHA provides visible recognition of the contributions made by members each year through its awards and recognition program. It is a means of bestowing honour on individual members by their peers and professional Association.
There are five individual awards that you may choose from to nominate a deserving person.
Award of Honour
The Award of Honour is the most prestigious honour that the Association bestows. It is conferred upon an ODHA member who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession of dental hygiene and to the development of the Association and its aims.
Distinguished Service Award
A Distinguished Service Award may be presented to an ODHA member who has rendered distinguished service either to the profession of dental hygiene or to the Association or to both.
Elizabeth Craig Award of Distinction
This award may be presented to either an ODHA member or a community member who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the promotion of dental hygiene either within the allied health professions or the community. The recipient must exemplify the unique and excellent standards set by the former Executive Director, Elizabeth Craig.
Community Service Award
A Community Service Award may be presented to an ODHA member who has demonstrated participation and commitment through volunteer activities for the betterment of their community or to an organization within their community.
Life Membership Award
In order to receive life membership in the ODHA, a dental hygienist must have made an outstanding contribution to the profession of dental hygiene and to the Association and have demonstrated exceptional leadership as a professional. The nominee must have been an ODHA member in good standing for thirty (30) years, and have served as an official of the ODHA for a minimum of fifteen (15) years.
Student Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene Advocacy
A maximum of two (2) cash awards, valued at $500 each, will be given annually to recognize outstanding advocacy efforts locally or provincially. Examples of advocacy initiatives outside of curriculum requirements include lobbying MPPs, participating in oral health outreach, Gift from the Heart or Sharing Smiles. Candidates must be student members enrolled in the final year of an accredited dental hygiene program in Ontario. Each educational institution is allowed one nomination. Nominations must be submitted to the faculty in time for a collective decision to be made on the appropriate candidate to support.
Produced four times a year, the ODHA Report summarizes activities from the Board of Directors’ meetings.
In an effort to keep members informed and up to date, the ODHA periodically prepares and sends e-bulletins regarding association, professional and workplace issues.
