On November 21, 2018 the Ontario government passed Bill 47 – Making Ontario Open for Business Act, which includes changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000(ESA) and the Labour Relations Act, 1995. Bill 47 undoes many, but not all of the changes the liberal government introduced in Bill 148.
Bill 66 was introduced on December 6, 2018 by the Ontario government which if passed, will make additional key changes to the Employment Standards Act, 2000. Bill 66 does not materially impact the ESA to the degree of the rollbacks and delays under Bill 47.
This update, presented by Patrizia Piccolo, partner at Piccolo Heath LLP, will discuss changes to the ESA that may impact you at your workplace. Some of the changes highlighted include personal emergency leave/sick days, misclassification of a worker and scheduling.
Patrizia will also discuss the practical impact of the changes in the legislation for employers and employees.
